Motivate a man and he is on task for a day; teach him how to motivate himself and he's on task forever."

– Bob Prentiss, JD, MS, DTM

iMotivateme: Take Control of Your Motivation to Reach Your Goals and Achieve Your Dreams author Bob Prentiss first became fascinated with the concept of motivation while working on his Master's Degree in Instructional Design at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.

Shortly after moving to Tallahassee, and wanting to nurture his passion for helping others, Bob had explored the educational opportunities available with his local university. He was extremely interested in becoming a psychologist; unfortunately, the only academic programs available at that time were day classes requiring enrollment as a full-time student. As a single parent with a young child, that wasn't a viable option at that time. But that didn't stop Bob.

When he received an email through his employer offering employer-paid tuition for online courses, Bob jumped at the opportunity. He enrolled in instructional design, having already spent some time exploring the field and determining that was the direction in which he wanted to head. He completed his master's degree while working full time and raising his daughter but readily admits there were many times when he struggled, finding it hard to stay motivated with so many responsibilities competing for his time and attention.

Early on, Bob realized that if he wanted to succeed, not only would he need to become motivated, he would need to stay motivated. That led to the realization he would have to learn to motivate himself. No one else was going to take responsibility for motivating him.

During this time, Bob designed a course for his employer, teaching administrative assistants how to perform legal research. He knew he had to find a way to keep people engaged with the training so they wouldn't stop coming to class and never acquire the skill. Drawing from his own experience in graduate school and his daily work responsibilities in instructional design, Bob began to incorporate content and activities into his designs as a way to keep users engaged and motivate them to complete the training.

It wasn't always easy, but after years of research, study, hard work and effort, Bob finally mastered the art of self-motivation. Using the vast amount of research he had collected, and drawing from his own experience, Bob developed his own signature model for motivation, which was used as the basis for iMotivateme (Release date: Spring 2010).

In iMotivateme, Bob shares his journey with you. He offers concrete strategies, helping you navigate your own journey and avoid the pitfalls while teaching you proven techniques to motivate yourself so you, too, can achieve your dreams.
